Kia’s flagship North American SUV, the Telluride, has received a complete overhaul for its latest generation, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Enthusiasts across online forums have expressed their admiration, with many voicing a strong desire to own the updated model, which introduces a fresh design and a new hybrid powertrain. Unfortunately, it’s not available in Korea.

Exclusive to North America

The fully redesigned Telluride closely resembles the silhouette of the EV9, strongly reflecting Kia’s electric SUV design philosophy.

The front end features a bold vertical grille and distinctive daytime running lights, giving the vehicle a striking presence. The rear end has become even more angular and wide, with new taillights adding to its sense of heft.

According to renderings, the new Telluride will adopt the Star Map Signature Lighting, which will give it a more futuristic impression.

The beltline stretching from the window trim to the rear roof spoiler, flush door handles, and bold character lines all resemble the EV9—almost like a twin.

Powertrain Overhaul: Efficiency and Performance Combined

The biggest change in the new Telluride is under the hood. A 2.5-liter turbocharged gasoline hybrid powertrain has replaced the previous model’s 3.8-liter V6 gasoline engine. This change responds to North America’s increasingly stringent environmental regulations, shifting toward more fuel-efficient powertrains without sacrificing performance.

The hybrid system is designed to balance both efficiency and power, meeting consumer demand for better fuel economy while still delivering strong performance. There is also speculation that the new Telluride may share its hybrid powertrain with the upcoming Palisade Hybrid, as both vehicles share the same platform.

In addition to the hybrid powertrain, a 3.5-liter gasoline engine option is expected to be available for select North American buyers, offering an alternative for those who prioritize traditional power delivery.

The redesigned Telluride is expected to impact the North American market significantly. Its bold design and efficient powertrains appeal to SUV enthusiasts increasingly demanding style and sustainability. While the vehicle’s release remains exclusive to North America, the updated Telluride sets a strong precedent for future models, further cementing Kia’s commitment to blending performance with environmentally conscious design.
