Apple’s upcoming iOS 18.4 update, released this April, will significantly enhance CarPlay functionality.

The iOS 18.4 update introduces three key improvements to CarPlay. While CarPlay previously limited displays to two rows of app icons, but vehicles with larger screens will now expand the layout to three rows. This change allows users to view and access more apps at a glance.

The update also supports sports apps. With iOS 18.4, developers can leverage a new API to integrate sports apps with CarPlay, allowing drivers to check live game scores on the go. Apple’s own Sports app is likely to receive corresponding updates.

Lastly, the update introduces new navigation settings for European Union (EU) users. Apple Maps was the default navigation app, but EU users can now set third-party apps like Google Maps as their primary navigation tool. This update is expected to streamline voice navigation through Siri, making the overall experience more user-friendly.
