Jeep is developing a successor model to the Cherokee, heralding a new change in the SUV market. The prototype recently captured during a road test appears to have a completely new design, and it exudes a strong presence different from the previous Cherokee.

The new model is confirmed to be larger than the current Cherokee and incorporates design elements from Jeep’s flagship Wagoneer S. As part of Jeep’s efforts to redefine its brand identity and refresh its design language, the successor to the Cherokee will play a pivotal role in these changes.

Bold New Styling and Design Evolution

The next-generation Cherokee takes cues from Jeep’s latest design philosophy, with a sharper, more refined 7-slot grille and headlamps that integrate more seamlessly into the front end. The design exudes sophistication even with camouflage, hinting at a much more polished and modern styling than the previous iteration.

The side design has a similar silhouette to the Wagoneer S but has been differentiated. The wheel arches are more prominent, and the C-pillar has been changed to harmonize with the broader body. In addition, the overall volume of the body is emphasized, creating a more luxurious feel than the existing Cherokee.

The vehicle has undergone significant changes at the rear. The tail lamps have been repositioned higher, and the license plate and bumper designs are expected to mirror those of the Wagoneer S. This gives the SUV a larger, more solid presence while staying true to Jeep’s strong SUV design language, now updated for a more contemporary look.

Cutting-Edge Platform Potent Powertrain Options

The Cherokee successor will be built on Stellantis’ STLA large platform, a versatile structure that can support a range of powertrains, including internal combustion engines and hybrids. This platform will allow Jeep to offer various powertrain options, catering to diverse consumer needs.

Jeep will likely equip the new Cherokee with the Hurricane 6-cylinder twin-turbo engine for the high-performance variant, producing up to 500 horsepower. This will position the vehicle among the most powerful SUVs in its class, offering potent performance to match its bold new design.

The SUV market has recently been rapidly expanding and becoming more luxurious, and Jeep is also following this trend. The new Cherokee is expected to provide differentiated value from competing models based on design innovation and powerful powertrains. Attention is focused on whether it will overcome the sluggishness of the existing Cherokee and establish itself as a new competitor once again.
