North Korea marked Kim Il Sung’s birthday on Tuesday, praised his legacy, and stressed loyalty to his grandson, current leader Kim Jong Un.
The Workers’ Party’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, said in an editorial that the Juche ideology, created by “Great Leader Kim Il Sung,” continues to grow through Kim’s bold ideas and theories. They called Kim an outstanding revolutionary genius.
The newspaper praised Kim’s decision to set Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il’s ideology as the party’s supreme program. It called the move a historic event with major importance in the effort to carry forward and complete the Juche revolutionary cause.
It praised Kim’s five-party construction line and his second defense industry revolution ideas as scientific and practical programs that drive the growth of North Korea’s socialism. The paper also urged the establishment of Kim’s sole leadership, the strict advancement of the revolution, and its construction based on his ideological will.
North Korean media reported national cultural events to celebrate Kim Il Sung’s birthday. The Korean Central News Agency described Monday’s events, which included a national gathering of the Korean Children’s Union, performances at the Pyongyang Student and Youth Palace, meetings of women’s union officials and members, and youth and student presentations.
As of this report, North Korea has not announced any public appearance by Kim. However, he is expected to attend the completion ceremony of a 10,000-unit housing project in Pyongyang’s Hwasong district, likely timed around the Day of the Sun, Kim Il Sung’s birthday.
