In the middle of downtown, a driver reads the newspaper with hands off the wheel. This scene of leisurely enjoyment, akin to being in a limousine with movies playing inside the vehicle, is no longer a vision of the future.
Mercedes-Benz unveiled the new S-Class, showcasing the latest evolution in automotive technology.
The new S-Class has been transformed into a moving living room with a major upgrade to Drive Pilot, the world’s first commercialized Level 3 autonomous driving system. It features an AI-powered voice assistant and integrated streaming services.
Hands-Free Driving: The Advancement of Drive Pilot

The new S-Class’s highlight is its Level 3 autonomous driving capability. True hands-free driving is now possible, allowing drivers to fully disengage from driving.
Drive Pilot enables autonomous operation at speeds of up to 95 km/h (59 mph) on highways and 60 km/h (37 mph) in urban settings.
The system has over 35 sensors—including LiDAR, radar, ultrasonic sensors, and cameras—that continuously monitor the vehicle’s surroundings and make independent real-time driving decisions.
When this system is activated, drivers can safely remove their hands from the wheel and focus on other tasks. Mercedes-Benz is even considering using teal-colored exterior indicators to inform nearby drivers when autonomous mode is active.
This feature is currently available only in Germany and is expected to expand to more countries as regulations allow.
AI Voice Assistant and Streaming Integration

The changes go beyond autonomous driving. The new S-Class also introduced radical innovations in its internal infotainment system. Mercedes’ MBUX system now includes voice recognition capabilities powered by ChatGPT.
This feature utilizes Microsoft Azure OpenAI services, allowing the vehicle to recognize and execute commands in natural language accurately.
For instance, it can provide real-time responses to queries like “Find a nearby gas station” or “What was my mileage last month?”
Moreover, high-resolution navigation based on Google’s satellite maps ensures precise guidance even in complex urban environments.
The addition of YouTube and Sony’s RIDEVU streaming platform transforms the S-Class into a content hub, allowing passengers to stay entertained on the move.
Personalized Luxury With Expanded Options

Luxury and personalization options have been significantly expanded, aligning with the expectations of a premium sedan.
Through the Manufaktur customization program, customers can now choose from over 50 exterior paint options and more than 25 interior color and trim combinations.
The selection of materials, including luxurious special woods and Nappa leather, allows customers to express their tastes and individuality through a single vehicle.
Mercedes-Benz also introduced a special edition model. This version comes standard with the AMG line and Night package, combining sportiness with refined aesthetics.
It features a dedicated emblem, 20-inch AMG wheels, and standard digital light technology, offering a design distinct from the standard S-Class.

An industry expert commented that this model represents a perfect blend of innovation and luxury. Its features could give it a distinct edge over competitors.
