Smart surprised the industry by launching the mid-size electric SUV, Smart #5, in the European market.
Unveiled on March 21, this model is comparable in size to the BMW X3, marking a significant departure from the brand’s previous image.
From Compact to Colossal: Smart’s New SUV Rivals BMW X3

Smart officially introduced the production version of the #5 in Europe, following its concept debut at Auto China in April 2024. It is 4,695 mm (184.8 inches) long with a 2,900 mm (114.2 inches) wheelbase. This D-segment SUV is a far cry from Smart’s signature compact two-seaters.
In the UK, the Smart #5 will be offered in five trim levels: Pro, Pro+, Pulse, Premium, and the top-tier Summit Edition.

The #5 features impressive cargo space, with a 72-liter (2.5 cu ft) frunk and a rear cargo area expandable from 630 to 1,530 liters (22.3 to 54 cu ft) with folded seats.
800V System Delivers 590 km (367 miles) Range and Rapid Charging

The base Pro trim has a 76 kWh LFP battery and a 400-volt system. It offers rear-wheel drive with 250 kW (335 hp) output.
It achieves a 465 km (289 miles) WLTP range, with AC charging taking 8.5 hours and DC fast charging from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes at over 150 kW.
Higher trims use a 100 kWh NCM battery with an 800-volt architecture. RWD versions produce 267 kW (358 hp) and boast a 590 km (367 miles) range.

AWD models in Pulse and Summit trims deliver 432 kW (579 hp), accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 4.9 seconds with a 540 km (336 miles) range. The 100 kWh battery supports 400 kW DC charging, enabling a 10–80% charge in just 18 minutes. It also offers V2L (vehicle-to-load) functionality for powering external devices.
AWD Performance and Off-Road Capability

Even base models have advanced driver aids and a panoramic sunroof.
Pulse and higher trims add dual OLED displays and a heat pump, while the Summit Edition includes an electric trailer hitch, a roof rack, and a side ladder for adventure enthusiasts.
AWD versions offer five off-road modes for various terrains. Audiophiles can choose an optional Sennheiser sound system with 20 speakers.

European pricing starts at €45,900 (approximately $55,000) for the base Pro and rises to €56,900 (approximately $68,000) for the top-spec Summit Edition.
