Volvo revealed its latest model, the EX30 Cross Country, designed to handle steep slopes and unpaved roads. Real-world images show the electric SUV with off-road capabilities.

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) recently released full specifications for the EX30 Cross Country, confirming its launch in the Chinese market.

This is Volvo’s first electric cross-country vehicle, based on the compact EX30. A global release is planned for summer 2025.

The EX30 Cross Country distinguishes itself from the standard EX30 with off-road-focused exterior enhancements.

These include rugged cladding around the wheel arches; protective skid plates on the front, rear, and sides; and a black-panel front bumper and trunk lid.

This is Volvo’s third Cross Country model after the V60 and V90 and the first to be fully electric.

Standard 19-inch black wheels balance off-road performance and style. 18-inch options are also available.

The vehicle is 4,233 mm (166.7 in) long, 1,850 mm (72.8 in) wide, 573 mm (61.9 in) high, and has a wheelbase of 2,650 mm (104.3 in). Compared to the standard EX30, it is 12 mm (0.5 in) wider and 18 mm (0.7 in) taller. This larger and taller body design is intended to improve stability on rough terrain.

Power Boost: AWD Dual Motor Configuration

Performance upgrades are a key highlight. The EX30 Cross Country uses a dual-motor electric system, producing 154 horsepower at the front and 268 horsepower at the rear, for a total system output of 422 horsepower. This AWD powertrain is tuned for off-road performance and comes standard.

It will include a ternary lithium battery, commonly found in high-performance EVs, though battery capacity and driving range details have not yet been disclosed.

Interior and infotainment system details will be shared closer to the launch.

Global Market Launch Preparations: Pricing Starts Around $30,000

While China gets the first look, the EX30 Cross Country will be sold globally. The China launch date is not confirmed, but the global rollout is scheduled for summer 2025.

The model is priced at approximately 200,000 CNY (approximately $28,000), which matches the base EX30. Given the added off-road capabilities, this is a competitive price point.

An industry insider noted that Volvo is moving beyond conventional EVs by entering the off-road electric segment. This strategy appeals to drivers who want both sustainability and adventure.

With the EX30 Cross Country, Volvo signals a strong commitment to electric mobility and rugged versatility. The industry closely watches how this model will perform in the growing EV SUV market.
