As automakers increasingly flood the market with electric SUVs and crossovers, Mazda is charting a different course with the launch of its new all-electric sedan, the Mazda 6e. Recently unveiled and now on sale in select European markets, the 6e signals a bold entry into a segment that remains underserved in the EV era.

A Return to the Sedan, Electrified

Based on Mazda’s KODO design philosophy, the 6e showcases elegant proportions, a low-slung silhouette, and a performance-forward profile. The illuminated grille, integrated headlamps, frameless doors, and active rear spoiler give the 6e a premium and distinctly futuristic appearance.

The Mazda 6e’s body size is 4,921 mm (193.7 inches) in length, 1,890 mm (74.4 inches) in width, 1,491 mm (58.7 inches) in height, and 2,895 mm (114.0 inches) in wheelbase, making it a mid-size sedan. It is one size larger than Kia’s EV4 and similar in size to Hyundai’s Ioniq 6, but the overall length is about 7cm (2.8 inches) longer, and the wheelbase is about 6 cm (2.4 inches) shorter. The overall width and overall height are similar, with a difference of less than 1cm (0.4 inches).

Up to 345 Miles of Range with Premium Interior Finishes

The interior also stands out with its elegant atmosphere, high-quality materials, and practical layout. It features a spacious panoramic glass roof and floating center console, and leather stitching is applied to the door trim and the top of the dashboard. The 10.2-inch augmented reality digital instrument panel and 14.6-inch center display provide intuitive information to the driver.

There are two powertrain specifications. The basic model drives the rear wheels with a 68.8 kWh battery and a single motor with a maximum output of 258 horsepower. It can run 483 km (300 miles) on a single charge, according to the WLTP standard. The range model combines a large-capacity 80 kWh battery and a motor detuned to 244 horsepower, allowing a range of 555 km(345 miles). Both specifications provide an ample torque of 32.6 kgf.m and support 200 kW rapid charging.

Aggressive Pricing Strategy Undercuts Segment Rivals

Mazda has priced the 6e competitively in Europe, with a starting MSRP of €43,775 (approx. $47,419). That puts it below the European pricing of the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 6. Furthermore, Mazda is offering a launch discount of €4,210 ($4,560), bringing the effective entry price down by nearly $6,800 compared to the EV6. This makes the 6e a compelling value proposition for EV buyers seeking sedan styling and long range at a lower price point.
