Jetour, the premium SUV brand under China’s Chery Automobile, is set to expand its global footprint with the 2025 Traveller—an affordable midsize SUV that channels Land Rover Defender-inspired styling at a starting price of just $19,250. As Chinese automakers continue to push aggressive pricing and feature-rich offerings, the Traveller stands out as a potentially disruptive entry in the global SUV market.

Premium Design Meets Budget Pricing

Visually, the Traveller blends rugged utility with upscale touches. A boxy silhouette, crystal-finished grille, champagne gold accents, and full-width LED light bars offer a premium look typically reserved for higher-priced vehicles. The Traveler’s 4,785 mm (188.4 inches) in length with a 2,800 mm (110.2 inches) wheelbase offers generous cabin space that rivals or exceeds many mainstream competitors.

Inside, the Traveller continues the upscale theme with a red and black two-tone interior, matte chrome trim, and ambient lighting features such as a lighting map function on the passenger dash. A modern infotainment interface, paired with a card-style control system, adds convenience and tech appeal aimed at younger buyers seeking more than just value.

Functional Features for Long-Haul Comfort

Jetour has equipped the Traveller with several practical features for long-distance driving, including illuminated wheel arches, magnetic umbrella holders, and integrated beverage coolers. Typically found in higher-end SUVs, these elements enhance usability and reinforce the brand’s push into a more premium perception.

Performance Options and Off-Road Capability

Buyers can choose between a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 184 horsepower or a more powerful 2.0-liter turbo rated 254 horsepower. Both options are paired with Jetour’s 7+X drive mode system, offering adaptability for city streets and rugged terrain.

The Traveller’s off-road specs are solid for its class, with 220 mm (8.7 inches) of ground clearance, a 28-degree approach angle, and a 30-degree departure angle—numbers that support light to moderate off-road excursions. While no hardcore rock crawler, the Traveller provides legitimate SUV capability at a fraction of the typical cost.

A Price Undercutting the Competition

Priced at 139,900 yuan ($19,250), the Traveller significantly undercuts segment competitors like the Kia Sorento ($24,244) and Hyundai Santa Fe ($23,847) in China. The model has seen strong domestic sales momentum, with 15,523 units sold in September 2024—marking a 189.4% year-over-year increase.
