Tesla expands lineup
What if they also make wagons?
With the appearance of a Conceptual image, enthusiasts go wild
Tesla’s lineup, including Model S, Model 3, Model Y, and the latest Cybertruck, is simpler than other automakers. At least there were only sedans and SUVs, and a pickup truck was recently added, but there is no wagon model yet.
What if Tesla launches a wagon to target the European market? A virtual rendering based on the Model 3 Highland (the facelift version), recently launched in the global market, is a hot topic. Although there is little chance of it being released, fans are considerably interested.
Based on Model 3 Highland
Assuming targeting the European market
Theottle, specializing in predicting new cars, presented an imaginary map of the Tesla Model 3 Highland Wagon on the February 21. Previously, he created imaginary and predicted drawings based on South Korean models such as Hyundai Grandeur N and Kia Tasman. This virtual rendering was created by imagining a situation where Tesla targets the wagon market when the BMW i5 Touring has been launched.
First, if we look at the front part, it is difficult to find any significant changes until the B pillar. Sharp-eyed readers would have noticed that a roof rack was installed. From where it goes behind the B pillar, the length of the second-row windows is reduced, but the roof line appears gentler. The volume of the rear quarter panel is not significantly reduced compared to the sedan, so it still looks sporty.
Naturally blended back view
“Even Elon Musk would admit it”
We can feel the change more clearly from the rear. The rear overhang was increased, and the shape of the rear quarter glass, which was close to a triangle, changed to a trapezoid. In the case of the top spoiler, the roof line is neatly finished. To add realism, a wiper has been added to the moderately reclined rear window. The tail lamp appears to have been used as is, and the edge line that folds over it blends in without any awkwardness.
Highlighting Model S Tuning Cases
Tuning costs alone exceed $76,161
Meanwhile, there was a case where a Tesla wagon was so desired that it was built. In 2017, an Australian owner of a Model S asked the UK-based engineering company QWest to convert his vehicle into a wagon. The reason was that the back seat was too narrow for his large dog to sit. The result was the Shooting Brake, which added the feel of the coupe to a typical wagon and was enough to garner worldwide attention.
In 2020, Dutch coachbuilder Remetz Car made the Tesla Model S, which is more like a shooting brake. This vehicle, created at the request of a car collector, was planned to be produced in small quantities of 20 units, but only one was produced. The total cost, including the vehicle price, was reported to be 224,521 euros (about $245,514).
