As the electric vehicle (EV) market continues its rapid expansion, a wide range of models offering diverse personalities and performance levels are emerging. Among them, BMW’s new electric SUV—the iX2 eDrive20 M Sport Package—delivers an impressive result that encapsulates the brand’s core philosophy of Driving Pleasure in an electric format. Although not built on a dedicated EV platform, this model blends BMW’s signature driving dynamics and style. We took it for a spin to experience it firsthand.
The new iX2 is undeniably stylish at first glance. Its sloping coupe-like roofline, bold kidney grille with active shutters, and thick rear bumper and spoiler elevate its visual appeal well beyond what one might expect from a typical compact SUV. The blue accents on the front headlamps highlight its EV identity while adding a sleek, sharp look. Overall proportions and details evoke a Mini-iX vibe, visually enlarging its presence beyond its actual size.
Inside, BMW’s characteristic luxury remains intact. The dashboard is anchored by dual 12.3-inch displays arranged in a driver-oriented layout, while a thoughtful mix of materials enhances the cabin’s emotional quality.

As expected from any BMW, the steering wheel offers superb grip, and the seats provide excellent lateral support, keeping the driver firmly in place even during sporty driving. The wireless charging pad features a vertical slot and cooling grooves, enhancing practicality.

However, the rear seats feel a bit cramped due to the vehicle’s design limitations. With the battery placed under the floor, seat height increases slightly, leading to a somewhat elevated knee position. Still, thanks to adjustable seatbacks and excellent cushioning, long-distance travel remains comfortable.

The iX2 eDrive20 is equipped with a 204-horsepower single motor and front-wheel-drive system. While its 0–100 km/h time of 8.6 seconds may not be groundbreaking on paper, real-world driving reveals more than adequate acceleration and responsiveness.

Three drive modes—Personal, Sport, and Efficient—are available. In Efficient mode, which includes a Max Range feature, drivers can extend their driving range by an additional 30 to 35 kilometers. For everyday city driving, Efficient mode provides ample power, while Sport mode sharpens throttle response and steering feedback for a more dynamic experience.

BMW has clearly not compromised on driving refinement in its EV lineup. The composure seen in the i4 continues here in the iX2. The suspension is tuned to absorb secondary shocks over speed bumps smoothly, and the cabin remains impressively quiet.

Although the official combined efficiency rating is 4.8 km/kWh, in real-world driving, the iX2 delivers a practical range of around 400 to 450 kilometers. The finely tuned energy management system and the effectiveness of the Max Range mode contribute significantly to this performance.

The BMW iX2 eDrive20 is more than just a city-friendly SUV. For consumers seeking a balance of efficiency and emotion, luxury and performance, it stands as a compelling choice among electric vehicles.
