Toyota Gazoo Racing is set to unveil a flagship supercar that will succeed the iconic Lexus LFA. Prototypes have been spotted over the past few months, and production is anticipated to begin as soon as this summer. Customer deliveries are expected to start this fall.

Initially shown as the GR GT3 concept car at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon, the car may ultimately be launched as the Lexus LFR or could debut independently under the Gazoo Racing name. Regardless of the final branding, this new model is expected to be the crown jewel of the Toyota GR lineup.

V8 Engine with Hybrid System: A Powerful 900 Horsepower

Spy shots of both the racing and road versions have confirmed some design elements from the GR GT3 concept, with hints of Lexus-inspired touches. A video from a previous track test revealed the car’s engine sound, suggesting it will feature a 4.0L V8 twin-turbo engine combined with a hybrid system.

The production model is expected to have a self-charging hybrid system, delivering 720 horsepower from the engine alone. The integrated hybrid system’s total output is estimated at 900 horsepower, offering impressive performance to match its aerodynamic design and sporty proportions.

Aggressive and Aerodynamic Design Retains Concept Features

In the case of the prototype for the racing model, it has a sleek appearance through the ratio of the long bonnet and the low roof line, and the rear part is equipped with a large rear wing. In the front and rear parts, cooling efficiency was improved through large air intakes. The three-part air intake is located in the bumper, and there are also straight air intakes on the bonnet and fender.

Other than this, the specific design is difficult to confirm because it is covered with camouflage, but the protruding front lip, voluminous side skirts, and quad exhaust muffler tips can be seen at the rear. The wheels close to the fender form a double 5-spoke shape, which appears to be the same as those applied to the GR GT3 concept. The body shape also largely maintains the idea’s appearance.

Expected Price Over $200,000, But Not a Limited Edition

For the chassis, carbon fiber was applied based on aluminum. This makes it as lightweight as possible while boasting high strength and durability. Toyota’s latest supercar, whose name has not yet been decided, is expected to cost over 30 million yen ($200,000). If launched, it will likely compete with models such as Lamborghini Temerario and Ferrari 296 GTB in the global market.

However, unlike the Lexus LFA, which was sold in limited quantities of 500 units over two years, this model is reported not to be sold in limited quantities. Since the price is high, it seems that even if it is released, it will be difficult to encounter it on public roads for a while quickly. Specific specifications and related information are expected to be released when production is scheduled for summer.
