MG unveiled its new electric SUV, the Cyber X, at the Auto Shanghai 2025, aiming for a 2025 release. As a concept car, this model presents a typical boxy electric SUV design with futuristic details, drawing immediate comparisons to a smaller Land Cruiser among consumers.

The Cyber X is the second model in MG’s Cyber series, following the Cyberster, and marks a significant step in the brand’s strategy to expand its electric vehicle (EV) lineup. The involvement of designer Jozef Kaban, who has worked at Rolls-Royce, BMW, and Volkswagen, has generated further excitement around the vehicle. While details on the powertrain and release schedule are still to be announced, the Cyber X is expected to be officially revealed next year.

The Boxy Body with Pop-Up Headlights

The Cyber X’s first impression begins with its angular and solid boxy body. MG modernized the silhouette, drawing inspiration from classic off-roaders, with a matte black exterior color. Notably, the front features pop-up headlights that rise when activated and retract when off, blending retro sports car charm with futuristic technology.

Jozef Kaban, formerly design director at Rolls-Royce, Volkswagen, and BMW, designed the Cyber X. He joined MG in 2024 as the head of design at SAIC. The Cyber X marks the first concept car released under his leadership, showcasing MG’s more refined design direction that aligns with global tastes.

The smoke-black A and B pillars give the side profile the impression of the body floating, and the silver and black two-tone 5-spoke wheels further lower the visual center of gravity. The design perfectly balances the SUV’s inherent stability and a stylish, modern aesthetic.

A Game Changer for the Off-Roader Market

Although MG has not disclosed specific specs like the powertrain, platform, or driving range during this reveal, the company plans to aggressively promote its EV strategy, which includes the Cyber X. As part of SAIC-MG’s roadmap to introduce more than eight EV models by 2025, the Cyber X will take on a central position in the SUV segment.

This debut also highlights the collaboration with smartphone manufacturer OPPO, enhancing connected technology. The Cyber X aims to transition beyond a mode of transportation into an innovative mobility platform by improving the digital user experience and integrating smart devices within the vehicle.

While targeting the Chinese market first, the Cyber X is expected to perform competitively in Europe and Southeast Asia. Combining off-roader appeal with futuristic technology, this model will likely leave a strong impression on consumers seeking bold options in the electric SUV market. MG is expected to unveil the production version of the Cyber X in the second half of 2025.
