From 2.5mm to Full Command: Hyundai Mobis Delivers Peak Minimalism

The smart card key introduced by Hyundai Mobis is gaining explosive popularity in the aftermarket. Since its release in late 2024, word of mouth across various automotive communities has led to repeated sellouts, positioning it as a game-changer in the traditional car key market.

On Thursday, Hyundai Mobis officially launched the smart card key for all Genesis models through the brand’s official online store, Genesis Boutique. The product, which fits all smart key functions into a thin credit card-sized form, combines sleek design, portability, and functionality—making it a standout item in the automotive accessory market.

The smart card key supports door locking and unlocking, trunk opening, remote engine start, and Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA), providing the full functionality of a traditional smart key. Despite its ultra-slim 2.5mm profile, the card features a high-end finish and an intuitive physical button layout, enhancing user satisfaction.

Equipped with Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology, the card key does not need to be tapped on the vehicle like an NFC key. It can be recognized even while inside a pocket, offering exceptional convenience. The product is praised for combining the ease of smartphone-based digital keys with the reliability of traditional smart keys.

Since February, Hyundai Mobis has been expanding the use of the smart card key to major new Hyundai models including the all-new Palisade, IONIQ 9, Sonata The Edge, and the all-new Kona. Plans are also underway to expand compatibility to Kia models such as the Tasman, Sorento, and Carnival. The goal is to enhance the premium user experience by extending availability across all Hyundai Motor Group models, including Genesis.

Hyundai Mobis is also preparing to enter global markets including North America and Australia. At the recent Seoul Mobility Show, the company showcased collaborative versions of the smart card key with global automakers to attract overseas interest. In the future, Hyundai Mobis plans to offer custom production services for corporate clients, allowing company logos and slogans to be printed on the keys.

A Hyundai Mobis spokesperson noted that the smart card key is gaining traction as a next-generation solution that merges cutting-edge technology with design and everyday practicality, adding that the company aims to boost its global reach and elevate the premium user experience.
