Despite recent disappointing earnings and CEO Elon Musk’s political controversies, Tesla is still demonstrating remarkable speed, according to a report published Sunday by electric vehicle media outlet InsideEVs.
A recent video posted by the YouTube channel Wheels Plus shows a drag race involving the Model 3 and Model Y at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Drag racing is a simple format where two vehicles race down a straight quarter-mile (approximately 400 meters) track to determine the winner. Tesla’s competitors this time included powerful internal combustion engine vehicles such as the C8 Corvette, Mustang Shelby GT500, and a Ford pickup truck.
In the first race, the Model 3 went up against the C8 Corvette but narrowly lost, finishing with a time of 13.84 seconds. However, in the second race, the Model Y faced another C8 Stingray and won with a time in the 12-second range. In the third race, the Model 3 competed against a Ford pickup truck and won decisively with overwhelming speed.
The final race was the fastest of all. The Model 3 faced the Mustang Shelby GT500, and both cars finished in the 11-second range.
InsideEVs concluded that although Tesla may be facing turbulence in terms of financial performance and stock price, its vehicles still prove to be powerful in terms of speed.
