Swedish electric vehicle brand Polestar has unveiled the 2026 model of its flagship Polestar 2, introducing a major overhaul aimed at keeping up with rapidly advancing competitors in the EV market.

While maintaining the exterior design of the previous model, the 2026 Polestar 2 features significant internal system upgrades, including improved infotainment and audio systems and a switch in battery supplier from LG Chem to China’s CATL.

Cutting-Edge Infotainment System

One of the most notable upgrades in the 2026 Polestar 2 is the enhanced computing power inside the vehicle. The new model is equipped with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon chipset, significantly improving infotainment download speeds and response times. This reflects a growing trend among EV buyers who prioritize seamless digital experiences, including app execution speed and system stability. The audio system has also seen a major upgrade. An optional premium audio system by British high-end brand Bowers & Wilkins features 14 speakers and a powerful 1,350W output.

Additional features include Tweeter-On-Top technology to minimize sound distortion, Continuum Midrange Drivers, branded logo accents on the front doors, and stainless mesh finishes on the rear doors for enhanced visual appeal.

Battery Upgrade and Performance Improvements

Perhaps the most significant change is the switch in battery supplier. The previous 69kWh LG Chem battery has been replaced with a 70kWh CATL battery. As a result, the WLTP range of the standard range single-motor model has increased from 546km to 554km — a modest 8km gain.

Although the difference may appear minor, the improved efficiency is expected to help ease consumer concerns about limited charging infrastructure.

Charging features have also been improved. Plug & Charge technology, first introduced with the Polestar 3, has been integrated into the 2026 model. This feature enables automatic charging without manual authentication when using compatible chargers, significantly enhancing user convenience. It will also support better integration with major fast-charging networks, including Superchargers.

Refined Exterior Design and Options

While the overall exterior design remains consistent, new colors and wheel options add a refined touch. Customers who choose the Performance Package will receive new 20-inch forged alloy wheels with a five-spoke design.

The previously available Jupiter color has been discontinued, replaced by a new hue called Dune, which features a soft mica finish with fine pearl particles that evoke the warm tones of desert sand.

Interior options have also been upgraded. The Plus Pack now includes bio-based MicroTech seat materials and black ash inlays, while the Prime Pack includes premium features such as rear privacy glass.

This latest upgrade to the Polestar 2 appears to be a strategic move to maintain competitiveness against fast-growing Chinese EV brands such as BYD and Xiaomi, positioning the model as an evolving and innovative EV despite increasing competition. The 2026 Polestar 2 is currently available for pre-order in the European market and is scheduled to launch in key global markets, including the United States, later in 2025.
