Renault unveiled the updated Austral, its midsize SUV for the European market.

The refreshed Austral features Renault’s next-generation SUV design language, offering a sleeker exterior and improved performance.

This model replaces the Koleos, which shares its platform with the QM6.

Refined Exterior and Tech-Focused Interior

The front of the Austral receives a significant update, featuring new LED daytime running lights and a redesigned bumper.

The daytime running lights extend vertically along the bumper in a fang-like shape, giving the vehicle a more dynamic look. This lighting design is consistent with the style seen on Renault’s Symbioz and Rafale models.

Other updates include a new grille pattern and Renault’s latest logo. The lower air intakes are widened, enhancing the SUV’s stable stance.

The interior features a thoroughly modern cockpit. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is paired with a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment display. Ergonomically redesigned seats aim to improve comfort.

Renault engineers focused on reducing noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH), adding features like improved door seals, new mirror bases, enhanced hood insulation, and upgraded engine mounts. These changes result in a quieter cabin and smoother ride.

Advanced Hybrid Powertrain Options

The refreshed Austral offers two hybrid powertrain options. The first combines a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, delivering 160 horsepower.

A more powerful full-hybrid setup includes a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine and a dual-motor electric drive, producing 200 horsepower.

Renault also added four-wheel steering, which improves maneuverability at low speeds and stability at higher speeds. This powertrain lineup aims to balance fuel efficiency and driving dynamics.
