A Bold Step in Luxury: Coach Doors

One of the most striking features of the GV90 test model is its use of coach doors. These doors, which open opposite traditional doors and are typically seen on ultra-high-end luxury vehicles like the Rolls-Royce Phantom, mark a significant departure for Genesis. This unique door design signals the brand’s intention to carve out a premium niche in the luxury market. While the test model was heavily camouflaged, the coach door structure and the differently positioned rear door handle were clearly visible, aligning with the signature design of luxury vehicles.

While it’s unclear whether the coach doors will be available on all trims or reserved for a top-tier version, the design will surely be a major differentiating factor for Genesis in the competitive luxury SUV segment.

Built on the eM Platform for Electric Luxury

The GV90 will be based on Hyundai Motor Group’s new electric-only platform, the eM platform, which is expected to improve performance and efficiency. The GV90 will likely come equipped with a large 110kWh battery, offering ample range for long-distance driving. Additionally, all models will likely feature all-wheel drive (AWD) and a dual-motor system as standard.

Genesis is emphasizing luxury in the GV90’s interior design. The 6-seater model will likely feature independent captain’s chairs in the second row, emphasizing comfort and exclusivity. Combined with the coach doors, the GV90 is set to offer a VIP-level experience rarely seen in SUVs.

Targeting the Luxury Electric SUV Market

With the global demand for luxury electric vehicles increasing, the GV90 is poised to strengthen Genesis’s position in the high-end electric SUV market. The focus on luxury, performance, and innovative design elements like the coach doors demonstrates Genesis’ ambition to offer a truly premium experience. The GV90 is expected to launch in 2025, with more details likely to be revealed closer to the official release.

As the electric vehicle market continues to evolve, all eyes are on how the GV90 will compete with other premium offerings and what unique features it will offer.
