Detailed images of a new Tesla Model Y have surfaced on Chinese social media, revealing what appears to be a China-specific version of the popular electric SUV. Reports indicate that Tesla has begun delivering this updated model to dealers in China, and these images were leaked during that process.

Codenamed Project Juniper, this new version of the Model Y has already gained significant attention due to its widespread success globally, including in the U.S. It is considered one of the most anticipated vehicles of 2025. Let’s dive deeper into the newly leaked photos to understand the key differences.

China-Exclusive Model Y in Glacier Blue

The leaked photos show the new Model Y finished in a distinctive Glacier Blue color, a China-exclusive option. However, the actual shade in the photos appears closer to gray than the expected blue, highlighting potential discrepancies between the leak and the actual color. The vehicle in question is believed to be an early model produced at Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory. It is shown alongside the previous Model Y, confirming that the body proportions remain similar to the older version’s.

Redesigned Front and Rear with Cybertruck-Inspired Elements

One of the most noticeable changes is in the front design. The new Model Y features angular elements that seem to be influenced by Tesla’s upcoming Cybertruck, including thin LED daytime running lights paired with separate headlights. This design update reflects the latest trends in Tesla’s design philosophy.

The rear tail lamps have been completely redesigned with a new light bar, enhancing the vehicle’s modern aesthetic. However, consumers are giving mixed reviews for the black finish of the tail lamps. Despite these changes, the vehicle’s side profile remains largely unchanged compared to the previous version.

Performance Upgrades for the China-Specific Model Y+

The new China-specific Model Y has rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) variants. The RWD model is equipped with a 295-horsepower (220 kW) motor, while the AWD version boasts impressive driving performance with a 184-horsepower (137 kW) front motor paired with a 260-horsepower (194 kW) rear motor.

The Model Y+ variant, exclusive to China, also includes a Plaid-style badge and Chinese character lettering on the tailgate. This version stands out for including the Acceleration Boost function—worth approximately $4,110—making it a performance-focused model that enhances the driving experience.
