Audi Rolls Out New Naming Convention with A6 Reveal

Audi has abandoned its traditional powertrain naming system based on odd and even numbers, adopting a new, more structured approach.

According to The Verge on Monday, Audi’s new naming convention will use letters to indicate vehicle types, with “A” for low-profile models and “Q” for high-profile ones. These letters will be followed by numbers 1 to 8, indicating the vehicle’s size or classification.

The naming system will include body styles such as Avant, sedan, or Sportback, followed by a powertrain code at the end.

This revised system will debut with the new Audi A6, scheduled for unveiling on March 4. Under this structure, models will be named A6 Avant TFSI or A6 Sedan e-tron.

This update is expected to resolve confusion surrounding the e-tron lineup. Previously, the U.S. range featured a Q8-style SUV labeled Audi e-tron. A Sportback version was later introduced, and both were renamed Q8 e-tron.
