Hyundai Motor Group has solidified its position as a leader in the global electric vehicle market, earning recognition for cutting-edge technology.
At the 2025 Top Gear Electric Awards, Hyundai’s IONIQ 9 and Kia’s EV3 won in the Best Seven Seat EV and Best EV Crossover categories, respectively.
The IONIQ 9, Hyundai’s inaugural electrified flagship SUV, received praise for its sleek exterior design and class-leading interior space. Its standout 110.3 kWh battery offers an impressive 332-mile range on a single charge, the longest in Hyundai’s electric lineup. This range, based on the 19-inch wheel 2WD combined driving range, underscores its practicality as a large seven-seat electric SUV.
Jack Rix, TopGear’s editor, called the IONIQ 9 a technological tour de force, praising Hyundai for merging design flair with practical innovation.
Ashley Andrew, Managing Director of Hyundai UK, stated that the anticipation for the IONIQ 9 is phenomenal. He emphasized Hyundai’s commitment to expanding its EV portfolio across all segments, from compact crossovers to high-performance vehicles and large SUVs.
Kia’s EV3, designed to accelerate EV adoption, impressed judges with its outstanding 375-mile range based on the European WLTP standard. The EV3 also earned high marks for its feature set, including LED lighting, vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, a 12.3-inch infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and Kia Connect services, establishing it as a top contender in its class.
Ollie Kew, TopGear’s chief road test editor, praised the EV3 for delivering a midsize car-like driving experience with remarkable refinement. It handled challenging conditions with ease, creating a strong connection between driver and vehicle.
Paul Philpott, President of Kia UK, emphasized that the EV3’s recognition as both UK and World Car of the Year highlights its exceptional product competitiveness. This latest award further solidifies its position as a top-tier vehicle.
This latest recognition brings Hyundai Motor Group’s total to eight awards since the TopGear Electric Vehicle Awards began in 2020. Previous winners include the Kona Electric as Best Small Family Car, along with awards for the IONIQ 5, EV9, and IONIQ 5 N.

TopGear magazine, established in 1993, ranks among the UK’s top four automotive publications. It covers new vehicle reviews, comparisons, test drives, and car buying guides, influencing global consumer purchasing decisions.
