Dacia, a Renault Group brand, is making waves in the automotive industry with its upcoming electric city car. This budget-friendly EV is expected to disrupt the market.

It is scheduled for release in 2026, and its projected launch price is €18,000 (approximately $18,800). This price is expected to appeal to cost-conscious consumers.

Dacia recently released a teaser image of its new electric city car. The image mainly highlights the vehicle’s silhouette, revealing a sleek hatchback shape and a distinctive front design, hinting at a strong road presence.

The automaker is marketing the model as a small and practical electric car, so the design reflects Dacia’s latest design language.

While full specifications remain undisclosed, industry analysts believe the model is based on Renault’s new Twingo platform and technology.

The platform underscores Renault’s aim to produce affordable EVs, focusing on making electric mobility more accessible to consumers.

The key selling point is the price. Dacia aims to keep the cost under €18,000. To achieve this aggressive pricing, the company is streamlining parts and simplifying development and production to boost efficiency.

Producing cars in Europe helps Dacia avoid tariffs on Chinese EVs, further strengthening its competitive pricing.

Dacia’s current EV, the Spring, sells for approximately €16,900 in Germany. Analysts expect the new model to be priced similarly or even lower. Estimates indicate the new EV could undercut the Twingo E-Tech by at least €2,000.

This new EV will share its platform with the Renault Twingo E-Tech and Nissan’s budget-friendly electric offering, built on the AmpR Small architecture.

This electric-specific platform, derived from the CMF-B platform used in Dacia’s combustion engine vehicles, is expected to improve performance and safety.

Dacia uses the fast-paced development model in Renault’s Twingo project, aiming to bring the new EV to market within 16 months.

Dacia’s value-packed EV generates buzz even before its launch, and industry observers closely watch how it impacts European and global urban electric vehicle markets.
