Waymo Robotaxis Head to D.C.—East Coast Rides Coming by 2026

Waymo, the autonomous vehicle subsidiary of Google, has announced plans to introduce its commercial robotaxi service in Washington, D.C., by 2026.

On Tuesday, the company stated that it will begin expanding its operations to the East Coast, with services launching in Atlanta and Miami by the end of this year. Waymo operates in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Silicon Valley, and Phoenix and runs services in Austin through a partnership with Uber.

Waymo’s robotaxis are fully autonomous vehicles that drive themselves without a human operator, transporting passengers to their destinations. The company has been conducting test drives of its robotaxis in Washington, D.C., since last year in preparation for the service launch.

This expansion marks a significant step in deploying autonomous vehicle technology across major U.S. cities.
