Nissan is preparing to launch its new large electric sedan, the N7, in the Chinese EV market. First revealed at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show, the N7 is a joint venture model developed in collaboration with Dongfeng Motor and will be officially released in May 2025. Ahead of its launch, the vehicle is already being displayed at major dealerships across China, signaling the brand’s intention to make a strong market entry.

One of the N7’s standout features is its competitive pricing. According to local reports, the N7 is expected to cost between 160,000 and 180,000 yuan (roughly $22,100 to $24,800). This makes it more affordable than Hyundai’s mid-size Grandeur sedan, which costs around $25,300. This pricing gives the N7 a clear competitive edge in the growing Chinese electric vehicle (EV) market.

Luxurious Design Meets Aerodynamic Efficiency

The N7 boasts a sleek, futuristic exterior that reflects Nissan’s latest design philosophy. The front end features the brand’s signature V-motion design, with sharp headlights and V-shaped daytime running lights that give the car an aggressive, dynamic appearance. Below the hood seam line, a horizontal light bar illuminates next to the Nissan logo, while the front panel design eliminates the grille, further enhancing its modern look.

The side profile includes frameless doors and auto-flush door handles, contributing to a smooth, aerodynamic silhouette. A prominent character line runs above the door handles, emphasizing the vehicle’s sporty design while seamlessly connecting to the fastback-style roofline. This design achieves a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.208, ensuring top-tier aerodynamic performance for the N7. At the rear, horizontal taillights with a matching V-shaped LED graphic mirror the front design, completing the vehicle’s cohesive, futuristic aesthetic.

The N7’s dimensions position it firmly within the large sedan market. It measures 194.3 inches in length, 74.6 inches in width, and 58.6 inches in height, with a wheelbase of 114.8 inches. Compared to the Hyundai Grandeur (length 198.2 inches, width 74.2 inches, height 57.5 inches, wheelbase 113.8 inches), the N7 is slightly shorter. Still, it boasts a 0.8-inch longer wheelbase, 0.6-inch wider body, and 1.1-inch taller height, which could provide additional space and comfort inside.

268 Horsepower with Semi-Autonomous Driving System

The N7 is powered by a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) single-motor powertrain. The entry-level model offers 215 horsepower (160 kW), while the higher-end version reaches 268 (200 kW). Although the official driving range has not yet been revealed, the N7 is expected to deliver impressive performance. Inside, the cabin features sport-type seats with wide headrests designed for comfort for both the driver and front passenger.

The center console features a two-spoke, oval-shaped steering wheel with the gear selector behind it. The dashboard has an LCD digital instrument cluster and a large floating touchscreen, giving the interior a modern and intuitive interface. Two pop-up speakers integrated into the center console enhance the immersive sound system, while dual wireless charging pads and two cupholders in the center tunnel add practicality and convenience.

Regarding technology, the N7 has a semi-autonomous driving system developed in collaboration with Nissan and Chinese autonomous driving technology company Momenta. This system includes features such as Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) for city and highway driving and an automatic parking function. With the N7, Nissan is set to expand its EV lineup in China, and it will be interesting to see whether the model can significantly impact the competitive EV market in the region.
