In Korea, BMW has officially launched its first all-electric Sports Activity Coupe (SAC), the iX2 eDrive20, marking a pivotal moment in the brand’s electrification strategy. Combining the practicality of an SUV with the sleek, coupe-inspired styling and cutting-edge electric technology, the iX2 strengthens BMW’s position in the rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) market.

Performance and Efficiency: The Best of Both Worlds

The iX2 eDrive20 has BMW’s fifth-generation eDrive system. A front-mounted single electric motor generates 204 horsepower and 25.5 kg·m (188 lb-ft) of torque, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 8.6 seconds.

A 64.7 kWh lithium-ion battery allows a maximum driving range of 350 km (217 miles) per charge, with an efficiency rating of 4.8 km/kWh (3 miles per kWh). The vehicle supports fast charging, reaching 80% charge from 10% in approximately 29 minutes, while AC charging at home is supported up to 11 kW.

An Electric SAC that Embodies Emotion and Future-Forward Design

BMW’s first electric SAC blends sharp styling with a futuristic interior. The front end features LED headlights, the signature kidney grille, and large air intakes. The sloping roofline and rear spoiler reinforce the coupe-inspired silhouette.

The model has 19-inch double-spoke wheels, M-specific side skirts, and two-tone sports seats. The cabin includes an M sports leather steering wheel and a Harman Kardon sound system.

A curved display integrates a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch control display. A floating armrest and an integrated control panel further enhance the sophisticated design.

BMW’s latest OS 9 infotainment system supports T Map-based Korean navigation, YouTube, Melon, Spotify, and Apple CarPlay, offering a seamless digital experience.

Advanced Safety Features

The iX2 eDrive20 comes standard with BMW’s ‘Driving Assistant Professional’ package, which includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, forward collision warning, and lane-keeping and lane-changing assistance.

The Parking Assistant Plus system autonomously detects parking spaces and performs automatic parking. It also remembers routes up to 50 meters to assist in reversing. A 360-degree surround-view and 3D-view function provide enhanced spatial awareness.

Electric Yet Accessible and Strategic

The iX2 eDrive20 is in a single trim with the M Sport package. It costs 64.7 million KRW (approximately $48,525), including VAT. Positioned just below the luxury tax threshold, the model is designed to be more accessible.

BMW aims to expand its presence in the electric SUV market and maintain a competitive edge over traditional internal combustion engine vehicles. An automotive reviewer noted that BMW always delivers the highest comfort and driving experience.

With the EV market continuing to grow, industry observers are evaluating the iX2 eDrive20’s performance.
