Kia Issues Major Recall: Over 76,000 Cars Affected by Safety Flaw

After finding manufacturing flaws in 76,382 vehicles, including the Kia Niro and Niro EV, South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport announced last week that it would voluntarily recall them.

It has been established that a design flaw in the lower electrical wiring of the passenger seat may prevent the airbags in 35,571 Kia Niros and Niro EVs from operating correctly. This could compromise passenger safety by preventing the airbag from deploying in an accident or causing it to deploy unnecessarily. Therefore, Kia intends to begin corrective action on the impacted vehicles this Wednesday.

In addition to Kia, 37 models made and imported by five companies, including BMW Korea, Renault Korea, Tesla Korea, and Jaguar Land Rover Korea, are also covered by this recall.

Owners of vehicles subject to recall can check the recall status and specific defects by entering their vehicle number or chassis number at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Automobile Recall Center.
