Mazda will debut the EZ-60 at the Shanghai Motor Show, a new electric SUV. The EZ-60 is more than a technical upgrade. It features a completely redesigned platform, updated styling, and extended driving range. It is expected to serve as a key model highlighting Mazda’s commitment to electrification.

The EZ-60 is especially notable because it was developed through a collaboration between Mazda and China’s Changan Automobile. This collaboration combines the rapidly expanding Chinese EV industry with Mazda’s established design philosophy, drawing attention to the potential outcomes of their combined expertise.

Bold Design Meets Practical Performance

Despite being a production model, the EZ-60 stands out with a bold, futuristic design that gives it a concept car feel. Its front end features a closed-off grille, a full-width LED light bar for daytime running lights, split headlights, and an illuminated emblem—all contributing to its high-tech and refined appearance. A sharply sculpted front bumper adds a sporty element to the look.

Developed on Changan’s EPA platform, the EZ-60 is 4,700 mm (185 in) long, putting it in the same size class as the Tesla Model Y. Depending on trim, it has two battery options: the base model includes a 68.8 kWh LFP battery rated for 520 km (323 miles) on the CLTC cycle, while the higher-trim version uses an 80 kWh NMC battery rated for 628 km (390 miles) CLTC and over 550 km (342 miles) WLTP.

Both variants are rear-wheel drive. The standard trim delivers 160 kW (215 hp), while the upper trim offers 190 kW (255 hp) to provide stable daily use and highway travel performance.

Global Rollout Starts in China

The EZ-60 will launch first in China, then expand to Europe and the UK, and eventually be produced in Japan. The model will be sold as the EZ-60 in China and the CX-6e in global markets.

Mazda, historically known for its internal combustion vehicles, is pushing more into the EV space with the EZ-60. Working with Changan should help boost Mazda’s competitiveness through greater technological and production flexibility. The EZ-60 is also positioned to strengthen the brand’s connection to its existing CX-series SUVs and expand its electrified offerings.
