Mercedes-AMG has pulled the covers off its latest special-edition SUV, the GLC43 Edition R, emphasizing sporty driving characteristics and an enhanced design. The special model comes with a lower price point, which is achieved by omitting specific premium options in the standard AMG GLC43.
Lower Price Tag Without Sacrificing Core Performance
Priced around $10,000 less than the conventional AMG GLC43, the Edition R model streamlines its offering by removing select upscale features. The adaptive digital headlights, the AMG performance steering wheel wrapped in Nappa leather, augmented reality navigation, and the black Nappa leather interior trim are absent.
However, the Edition R retains the powertrain of the regular GLC43. Under the hood, it still packs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline turbocharged engine with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. This setup delivers a potent 421 horsepower and 51 kgm of torque.
Sports SUV Performance with Agile Handling
The Edition R maintains impressive acceleration, sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in approximately 4.8 to 4.9 seconds—solid performance for a sports-oriented SUV. Additionally, the model includes a 2.5-degree rear-wheel steering system for enhanced agility and dynamic handling.
Enhanced Sporty Features Tailored for Track Use
Compared to the base AMG GLC43, the Edition R is more explicitly oriented towards spirited driving. It comes standard with the AMG Dynamic+ package, which includes Race mode and performance-tuned engine mounts. Race mode delivers heightened throttle responsiveness and aggressive shift patterns, surpassing the capabilities of existing Sport and Sport+ modes, which are particularly beneficial on track.
Exterior enhancements reinforce its sporty appeal. The Edition R rides on larger 21-inch black wheels and features standard red brake calipers. Night Package 2 also emphasizes the vehicle’s dynamic, performance-focused aesthetic.
Distinctive Interior Styling with Performance-Oriented Features
Inside, the AMG GLC43 Edition R showcases a unique blend of style and sporty functionality. The interior incorporates red seat belts, the AMG Performance Seat Advanced Package, and black Artico leather paired with micro-cut material accented by vivid red stitching. A metallic dashboard inlay rounds out the cabin’s distinctive appearance.
