On April 16, Kia unveiled the K4 hatchback 5-door model for the first time in the world at the 2025 New York International Auto Show held in New York, US.
This model is a derivative model of the K4, a redesigned version of the Forte, a mid-sized sedan targeting the U.S. market, and is characterized by both practicality and a sporty driving feel.
Kia developed the K4 hatchback 5-door as a model exclusively for the US market and is scheduled to be released in the U.S. in the second half of this year. It stated that there are no plans to launch this model in South Korea.
Balance of Sporty Sensibility and Practicality

The K4 hatchback caught the eye with its dynamic exterior elements typical of hatchbacks, such as its smooth roofline, thick D-pillar, and hidden-type second-row door handles. In particular, the GT Line trim has a dedicated sports suspension, raising expectations for its driving performance.
The interior is centered around a panoramic curved display that integrates a digital instrument panel and air conditioning functions, and a new steering wheel, highlighting the driver-centered design. In addition, the trunk capacity reaches 628 liters, and the exclusive exterior color, Sparkling Yellow, reflects Kia’s strategy targeting the younger generation.
190 Horsepower and Advanced Auxiliary Systems

The K4 hatchback, which combines a 1.6-liter gasoline turbo engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission, produces a maximum output of 190 horsepower.
In addition to power performance, it is equipped with the latest ADAS technologies such as Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2), Evasive Steering Assist, Digital Key 2.0, and OTA (over-the-air update), which enhances driving convenience and safety.
Favorable Response from Overseas

Overseas consumers responded positively to the hatchback’s sensational configuration, noting that it was much more sophisticated than a sedan, the design was much better, and the interior design was impressive.
Some online users expressed regret over the lack of an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option in the Kia K4 hatchback, questioning why such a feature was not included. This sentiment highlights a growing interest in the model that extends beyond its appearance.
A Kia official indicated that the K4 hatchback is designed to satisfy both an urban lifestyle and a sporty feel, aiming to offer American customers a new choice in the compact car segment.
Kia’s Philosophy

The K4 hatchback shows the direction in which Kia is targeting future generations.
Kia’s strategy of not letting go of the appeal of internal combustion engine models even in the midst of the electrification transition is at the center of this strategy, and the K4 hatchback is at the center of it.
