Russia and North Korea Reconnect by Rail—Tourist Trips Start May 8

On Wednesday, TASS reported that train services between Vladivostok, Russia, and Rason, North Korea, will begin on May 8. This date is significant as it falls just one day before Russia’s Victory Day, commemorating the end of World War II.

According to a media outlet run by the Primorsky Krai government, Russian tourists will have the chance to visit the graves of Soviet soldiers who died while liberating Korea from Japanese occupation on the eve of Victory Day.

The report also stated that the first train on the new Vladivostok-Rason route will depart on May 8. Officials highlighted the significance of this international tourist train service for the Primorsky Krai region.

It is important to note that North Korea and Russia have previously maintained transportation links, including regular flights between Vladivostok and Pyongyang and rail services connecting Khasan and the Tumen River.
