This vehicle, which looks like a futuristic car from a science fiction movie, is not just a show car. General Motors has unveiled an all-new electric concept car based on the identity of the classic American sports car, the Chevrolet Corvette.

The vehicle was created at General Motors recently opened state-of-the-art design studio in Royal Leamington Spa, England. This unveiling symbolizes a major transformation of the Corvette brand, and also signals General Motors entry into the European market.

A Futuristic Design & A Reinterpretation of Tradition

The concept car that was unveiled has a body lower than the existing Corvette, with a length of 4669 mm (183.8 inches), a width of 2178 mm (85.7 inches), and a height of 1033 mm (40.7 inches). The silhouette resembles solid muscles, and the side is simple but sharp.

This design, which adds a European supercar feel, is reminiscent of Porsche or Ferrari. The gull-wing doors and split rear window are elements that pay homage to the 1963 Corvette Stingray.

The front windshield is designed to maximize the driver’s field of vision, and General Motors named it the Apex Vision.

General Motors, which led the design, explained that they saw this project as an opportunity to fully reimagine the Corvette, reconfiguring the brand’s identity by blending innovation with its traditional roots.

Technology Inspired by Aviation Technology

This concept car features a structure with separate upper and lower parts. The upper part is a modern successor to the traditional Corvette design, while the lower part is centered around EV battery technology and aerodynamic design.

The concept of Aero-Duality was applied to achieve optimal driving performance on both tracks and roads. The design, inspired by aviation technology, allows air to flow along the lower part of the vehicle to drive at high speeds without wings.

It is equipped with a pushrod suspension, fan assist system, and active duct system inspired by racing cars. The vehicle automatically controls airflow while driving to satisfy both efficiency and performance.

In addition, the interior is designed to be as low as 127 mm (5 inches), realizing an actual racing position. A cutting-edge display is integrated into the windshield in front of the driver’s seat, further enhancing the feeling of a future car.

General Motors European strategy Begins in Earnest

Starting with the announcement of this concept car, General Motors is accelerating its attack on the European market. The UK studio will operate as a global design hub along with Detroit, Los Angeles, Shanghai, and Seoul, and will play a central role in various electric vehicle projects.

Starting with this vehicle, General Motors is starting the full-scale transition of the Corvette brand to electric vehicles and plans to introduce various new vehicles, including GMC and Cadillac, to the European market by 2025.

Julian Thompson, head of design, said the concept reflects the evolution of the Corvette design language and is expected to serve as strong inspiration for future product development.

Corvette is now entering a new era that goes beyond sports cars, leading technological innovation while maintaining tradition, and looking beyond the US to the European hypercar market.
