Renault is bringing back an electrifying rally icon. In collaboration with its sports car brand Alpine, the company has announced the Renault 5 Turbo 3E—a modern electric reinterpretation of the legendary 1980s Renault 5 Turbo. Production will be limited and begin in 2027.

The Renault 5 Turbo 3E retains the spirit of its predecessors while embracing cutting-edge electric technology. Its compact footprint measures 160.6 inches long, 79.9 inches wide, and 54.3 inches tall, and its lightweight construction weighs just 3,197 pounds.

Two 200kW electric motors power this rear-wheel-drive platform, delivering a combined output of 540 horsepower and a staggering 3,542 lb-ft (4,800 Nm) of torque.

The Renault 5 Turbo 3E accelerates from 0 to 100km/h (0-62 mph) in just 3.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 168 mph (270 km/h). Its 70kWh battery offers a WLTP-rated range of up to 400 km (249 miles) on a single charge.

The vehicle features an 800V architecture supporting 350kW fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 15% to 80% in just 15 minutes.

The Renault 5 Turbo 3E makes a bold visual statement with its rally-inspired wide fenders and prominent rear spoiler.

Carbon fiber components in the upper body enhance rigidity while keeping weight down. A vertical handbrake and racing bucket seats underscore its track-focused nature. Alcantara and genuine carbon fiber materials create a premium feel, while six-point harnesses and a digital instrument cluster emphasize its high-performance credentials. Renault has skillfully blended retro charm with modern aesthetics, drawing inspiration from the original Renault 5 and 4 models.

The design also incorporates aerodynamic elements to maximize the electric vehicle’s efficiency.

Renault will produce only 1980 units of the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, each bearing a unique number from 0001 to 1,980. Pre-orders are expected to open soon, and given the high anticipation, the entire production run may sell out rapidly.

The Renault 5 Turbo 3E is poised to become a formidable contender in the growing segment of high-performance electric vehicles. It offers a unique blend of nostalgia and cutting-edge technology.
