Porsche AG announced that it has set a new electric vehicle lap record at the Interlagos Circuit. On Wednesday, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT completed the 4.3 km (2.67 miles) track in just 1 minute and 42.1 seconds.
Porsche achieved the record-breaking run with driver Felipe Nasr, a three-time IMSA champion and three-time Daytona 24 Hours winner. Nasr drove the Taycan Turbo GT equipped with the Weissach package, cutting nearly 8 seconds off the previous record of 1:49.8 set by the Taycan Turbo S in 2022. The new record also outperformed the 911 Turbo S, which had recorded a time of 1:43.087.
Peter Vogel, CEO of Porsche Brazil, commented that the brand’s upcoming launch in the Brazilian market aims to set a new benchmark and demonstrate the strength of the latest Taycan lineup. He added that the exceptional performance of the Taycan Turbo GT is awe-inspiring.
Since May 2023, the Taycan Turbo GT, which replaced the Taycan Turbo S as the official Formula E safety car, has been the most powerful safety car in FIA World Championship history. Each Formula E event deploys two safety cars: a Taycan Turbo GT and a Taycan Turbo GT equipped with the Weissach package. Both vehicles have advanced safety equipment and cutting-edge communication systems and alternate between primary and backup safety car roles.
