Volkswagen is shifting its focus to small, affordable electric vehicles with the announcement of the ID. EVERY1, a compact EV aimed at the European market. As the demand for low-cost electric vehicles grows in Europe and globally, this model represents a strategic move by the brand.

The ID. EVERY1 is not just a small and inexpensive electric vehicle; it is designed with extreme efficiency in mind. Volkswagen has optimized space usage and reduced costs while maximizing performance, making it a highly efficient option for the urban electric vehicle market. But will it succeed in the competitive European EV market?

Design: Nostalgic Yet Modern

The ID. EVERY1’s design carries a sense of nostalgia from the first-generation Golf. Its angular silhouette and round headlights evoke memories of the Golf while giving the car a contemporary and unique charm. What sets the ID. EVERY1, apart from its predecessors, like the e-UP!, has a sturdier, more solid build, contributing to its distinctive presence in the small EV segment.

Compared to the e-UP!, the ID. EVERY1 is 280 mm (11 inches) longer, extending its total length to 3,880 mm (152.8 inches). It is 1,490 mm (58.7 inches) high and 1,816 mm (71.5 inches) wide. This increase in size is intended to optimize space within the same vehicle class, providing more room for both passengers and cargo.

Space Efficiency and Cost Reduction

Volkswagen has implemented its MEB front-wheel drive platform in the ID. EVERY1. This platform offers a modest 94 horsepower, maximizing interior space while keeping the vehicle compact and efficient—the ID. EVERY1’s driving range is 250 km (155 miles), which is geared toward urban driving. While this may seem low compared to other EVs, it is understandable when considering the vehicle’s targeted purpose and affordable pricing. The reduced performance helps maintain the ID. EVERY1’s cost-efficiency makes it a budget-friendly option for those seeking a city-centric electric car.

The ID. EVERY1 is entering a highly competitive market. The demand for low-cost electric vehicles is rising rapidly, and many companies are gearing up to launch their budget-friendly models in the European small EV market, which the ID. EVERY1 is targeting, Kia is already preparing to release its own low-cost electric vehicles, including the Kia EV1 and EV2, signaling tough competition for Volkswagen.

The ID. EVERY1 is scheduled to be launched in 2027, and its success in the European small EV market is uncertain. With a growing number of competitors vying for market share, it will be interesting to see how Volkswagen’s new model performs against rivals, particularly the Kia EV1, which is expected to hit the market around the same time.
